Mackieman 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 You're welcome.
TC Dark Reign 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 QUOTE (Mackieman @ Dec 11 2005, 02:11 PM) You're welcome. How arrogant can you get? You make it sound like you're doing us all a favor by keeping the zone functioning, when in fact that IS your responsibility, one you've barely been able to maintain. I think more thanks goes to Junky who was there to bring up the zone when you weren't, or so I've heard. And even if not, all I see you do when you are online is take credit for things you've had nothing to do with. You really think your spontaneous setting changes are improving the population? Hardly. The credit goes to your new staff members levi, justi and skippy? who's positions I have yet to figure out because you could care less to make an announcement about it. They're the one doing the prizing and running events. All you do is come into spec and take the credit for what they are doing.
Mackieman 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 Ok so I should give credit where credit is due? Not a problem! Thank you, TCDR, for furthering the asinine ploys to boost a globally declining population through bad ideas and poor execution thereby continuing to drive the zone into the ground. Thank you, Senti, for being a giant toolbox and not once having an original thought about anything other than maps. Maps and other development skills alone do not a quality administrator make. Thank you, Levi, skippy, sanka, Novel, Justi, ZL, and vap for hearing my call for aid and rising to the task as best you can despite what anyone else said. Thank you for your willingness to work with me and to provide good ideas despite my declining amount of available time to spend working on the zone. Thank you for realizing that you have just as much to do with sustained viability of the zone as I do, and thank you for realizing that I need your help and giving it freely. And just for the record, it was Zeus who helped me restart the zone.
TC Dark Reign 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 Do I have to remind that the lowest low this zone has been through has been under your leadership? Thankfully, theres hope in the rest of your staff. You should give them credit more often then taking it all for yourself.
Leviticus 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 The staff can use help. If this a sort of way to show you want to help I need map editors/makers, SWZL help in Refs and people to just spread the word-interest squads, etc. Leviticus
syx 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 Time for more of my glorious input. Sure, swz isn't quite what it used to be. We had sysops before, but when swz was in it's prime, I assure you, the sysops weren't exactly around all the time. CH would come in and flag once in a while, say hi, but spent the majority of his time in different zones. Same with CC, who would come in once in a while, grace us with his UFO prescence and write CC in mines somewhere off in the distance strictly for personal entertainment. Then there was Tailchaser, who I believe did most of the actual sysop work. I'd say all in all, the sysops were around about 10% of the time at most. The smods and mods were around all the time. I believe that the smods ran the show for the most part. This isn't good enough for the current swz. With things changing and the population decreasing, the sysop needs to take a more active role in listening and making changes to please the majority. I find it sad that the zone has gotten to a point where it's not even starwarzone anymore. There's nothing star wars about it. The thing that kept starwarzone alive was the bonds that you make. It's the same with every other game online. After the game, after the points, and recs, there's always that friendship you have with someone else, a job that you have to do, or something that means more to you than getting in a ship and blowing some people up. I bought my first computer just to play subspace. I wanted to have my own squad, I made it, I took the really skilled people and made another squad, we played SWZL. I wanted to be a mod. I worked really hard, got promoted to smod. I really think that being a mod meant a lot more back then. Everything is a lot more lax now. Just being a mod was enough to get me to play everyday, to come into the zone and chat with friends, knowing that I had somewhere to be, something to do. I really don't think anything can be done about the population problems that swz is having, it's due to a lot of things all rolled up into a ball. Old timers won't stay because it's just not the swz that they remember. Sure times change, but we tend to go back to the things of the past that never do. Swz was more than just a zone, it was an attitude. A zone with settings based on the skill of a player more than random nonsense. "If all you want to do is centerkill, why don't you go to EG?". I can't possibly be the only person that remembers that. I would stop worrying about the settings and such, maybe put it back the way it was, smaller map, put the theme back in. Focus on knowing the community better. Honestly, I've seen smods say elitist things, possibly joking, but still, it's just not something that I'd care to accept. I'd like to take this opportunity to blame the bot as well, for killing the discipline that it took to be a real mod. It just meant more to be a mod back then. No Anti In the Center No Neuting No Ballkilling Freq 0 = ships 1,2,3 Freq 1 = ships 4,5,6 Ships 7/8 are reserved No ?buy menu =/

senti 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 QUOTE (Mackieman @ Dec 13 2005, 01:30 AM) Thank you, Senti, for being a giant toolbox and not once having an original thought about anything other than maps. Maps and other development skills alone do not a quality administrator make. Atleast i've done my share. And did what i could do when miew ran off for a year. And the reason i was made smod in the first place was for develepment like you mentioned. Now you? Sitting in spec with your fatass doesn't count. GForce 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2005 I agree with syx on the friendship thing. But, I think swz has a very childish appearance. I mean who asks if you'd eat kangaroos on your message board? Just a little bit ago we had cows on our webpage. I mean lets grow up a little bit. Lets have more of an older attitude because that's where the majority of the subspace players are at today. If you enter a zone and we have immature little girls talking about kangaroos and cows in their chats....no friendships or bonds are going to be made. 90% of the subspace population are maturing people. And whats sad is some of these older mature people are still talking about cows and kangaroos. It seems assinine to talk about this shit but seriously we need a more grown up population than fucken farm animals. If we have an older attitude and present our zone like people who are mature and not talking about cows and shit maybe we'll have a more mature audience come in. I also said this in a previous post. When you have nothing GO BACK TO THE BASICS! STICK TO THE BASICS
Dodj 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2005 rivalry is also missing, there are no characters left. no matter how idiotic some of them are myself included, it was part of the fun of the game, IE not taking it seriously. friendships MEH, its the fun of killing someone you don't like that kept me playing. the satisfaction of hunting them down or beating them and knowing that they are smashing their keyboard in frustration. i remember when mis and I had a new arch nemesis every couple months. it was great fun. slowly but sureley everyone has left now everyone left are boring. syx 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2005 Honestly, there had to be something that made swz popular in the first place. The game isn't really missing population it seems, trench and EG appear to be booming. SWZ just needs something to reset it, put it back on the map. There are a lot of things missing that need to be put back in place. Something definetly needs to be done. It needs to be done by someone with enough passion that will keep it going. Changing things here and there and having sort of a droopy atmosphere is what's keeping everything the way it is currently. There needs to be some sort of enthusiasm and it needs to come from the sysop/smods. I also note that I had a run in with Boingman today. Who called me lame for running away with 15 flags....not away to a base mind you, just away from him when he was trying to kill me. Seems he's convinced that since it was 2v1, I shouldn't have been flying away from him while he was shooting at me. I'm convinced he cried out of frustration. Anyway, the point is, that swz used ot have a lot more class. I've seen countless conversations in public about genitailia and other body parts that would offend most. Mom would have never let any of that go down, neither would some of the other mods/smods of my day. The zone needs a facelift, both appearance and sophistication. Makes you miss the old "jerks" like Ma$e and DCR who would just tell the whiners to shove it up their butts. Not so sophisticated, but no one wants to hear someone else whine. If you're going to whine, go to Trench.
Justinian 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2005 Whoa, who are all these people posting and stuff, syx? haha when was the last time i saw you in swz? play more. kekekek, just dropping a line in this cool convo about the zone. - Justinian S.
syx 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2005 due to boredom at work, I've incidentally been in and out of the zone everyday for the past couple weeks or so. Sometimes it's hard to catch me on weekends because of the girlfriend and all, but if it's a day that I need to be behind my desk, I'll probably pop into swz from time to time. Play a bit, sit in spec a bit. I haven't been active in the swz community for like 2-3 years now, but I'd like to see swz restored to it's former glory. I'd put in the time to make it the way it was, but I'm not exactly in a position to do so. It's the decision of those in power to make the changes. Quickshot* 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2005 haha i agree with syx completely on the lack of sophistication that the zone has. but on the other hand the populus of the zone now is made up of defrosts and dead poets, which are all young players that don't know any better. i have "had my words" with many of them acting out like that. but they think that i am trying to be an ass when in all actuality i am just trying to help these poor little suckers to learn the game better and act better so that they can have a better role in the zone. now i hate to say it and nothing against the leaders of such squads, but without the veteran "leadership" that zeta, orion, jf, bs, emi, spindle etc etc... gave to the zone these noobish squads will keep acting up and playing stupidly. so i say if we can't get these squads to come back take action as a player make these other players learn their role. they all act as if they have been around for years and know how things work. again i am not saying this is a major reason for the zone being the way it is, but it is a contributing factor. especially when new players come into the zone jsut to find ppl either sitting in safe with enormous btys or running around in center, just to lame the game by hiding on the edges of the map. the leaders of these squads need to act as a leader, show their players how to play, teach them how to act. again not saying that each person has to act a certain way. but we have all come to acknolodge a certain aspect of role playing within this zone, you create your own persona by getting better and allowing yourself to be able to back your talk. most of these new players talk up a storm and they suk ass. so i say to them, get better, learn to act not like a 5 year old, and you will be more respected. hell everytime i come into the zone a DP or defrost has ruined a game in one way or another, or at least people are talking about how much they hate a certain palyer cause of his actions. GForce 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2005 the zone needs maturity like i said before...funny som Caps ruin the game as well i always believed that from the beginning unless it was a 35v35 game or something swz IS missing that rivalry, i remember when i use to try to rival all the rec whores and run around center with a 60-0 or whatnot record until i was thored and killed by someone..which i also think thors should only be bought... but we know what swz needs it needs what it had in the old days class, style, and the normal settings, but now how are we going to get these things back to normal
